The mountain pastures of the Savoie Mont Blanc region are large meadows that have always been tended by man to provide his herds with abundant, high-quality grass. They are situated at altitudes of between 1,200 and 2,500 metres and are generally inhabited from late May to early October. In the Beaufortain, livestock is mainly cattle and dairy to make the famous Beaufort cheese. Traditionally, the alpagistes moved regularly to follow their herds, and there are still many chalets from this era scattered around the mountain, Plan Mya being one of them.<\/p>\n

This authentic mountain chalet was built in 1840, as can be seen from the engraving on the cupboard in the living room. Since then, it has remained in the same family, welcoming generations of mountain dwellers and evolving with the innovations of Beaufort\u2019s agro-pastoralism. Since the creation of the dairy cooperative and the mechanisation of milk transport, the multiplicity of mountain chalets has lost its usefulness, some have been abandoned, others have changed function, as happened to Plan Mya.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

1992<\/h2>\n

In 1992, Yvon Bochet took over the running of the Plan Mya mountain pasture. His wife Fran\u00e7oise was a poultry farmer in Villard sur Doron, but so that the whole family could live together in the summer, she developed a new activity: welcoming hikers on a half-board basis and serving meals at lunchtime. The first few years were hard work, fitting out the chalet to make it a little more comfortable, looking after the still small children\u2026<\/p>\n

Thanks to Fran\u00e7oise\u2019s persistence, her courage and her sense of hospitality, but also thanks to the support of her husband and Marguerite, his aunt, the refuge saw the light of day and grew.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

A lot has changed in 30 years: the children have grown up, the dormitory has been refurbished, the terrace has been created… but the essential thing has remained the same: it’s still the same values of mutual aid and the desire to do well, those of the mountain people, that keep the heart of Plan Mya beating.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

2021<\/h2>\n

In 2021, a new chapter begins for the refuge. Fran\u00e7oise is retiring and we\u2019re taking over at Plan Mya. We are Alice (Fran\u00e7oise and Yvon\u2019s daughter) and Thomas (her partner). Trained for several years by Fran\u00e7oise, we want to continue to develop the refuge without betraying the traditions, the memories of our customers and the many \u2018little hands\u2019 who have made it possible for this project to exist and endure.<\/p>\n
